Late 19th century Anglo Indian Campaign Staunton pattern Chess Set, one side natural bone, the other stained red. King 3 inches (7.5 cm.) Comes in the original lift-up top mahogany storage box.  To the inside of the lid, the maker's name Negasys and their logo, a British navel ensign flag with the word “Ensign” and “British made”.  Negasys was a late 19th century/early 20th century Anglo Indian firm who specialised in, amongst other items, natural history specimens. Possibly made and supplied for the British Indian troops.  Box 6 x 3.5 x 5 inches

Rare ensemble of a 19th century weighted Staunton Chess Set

by Jaques of London . The chessmen of carved and turned ebony

and boxwood  The white king with impressed mark to the rim

of its base “Jaques London”.

One knight and one rook from each side with impressed mark

of a small crown to their tops to donate kings side when playing.

The knights of the rare early “Anderssen Dropjaw" design

circa 1860- 1865.  Contained in a gothic design Carton Pierre storage

casket. These Gothic style Carton Pierre Caskets designed by

Joseph Williams containing Jaques sets and were retailed by

Leuchars. To the underside of the Casket there is the Jaques

paper trade label (distressed) .

Comes complete with rare “ Carton Pierre “ and gilt tooled red and

cream leather folding chess board stamped “Leuchars Piccadilly”

to the edge. The casket fits neatly in the recess of the folded

board for display when not in use. London circa 1855

The finely carved and turned boxwood and ebony chessmen with

the early Andressen style knights. One rook and one knight from

each side with small impressed crowns to their tops to donate

kings side when playing. The white king with impressed mark

"Jaques London" to the base of its rim. The pieces of an attractive

toffee colour and good patina.

Comes in mahogany slide lid storage box with Jaques green trade

paper label to the lid. Circa 1862

dark blue and red playing squares with fine gilt tooled decoration
