The outside with alternate decorated black and off white playing squares. The border and edges smothered in fine decorated pen work foliate, designs in an attractive mellow yellow on a black background. The inside revealing a fine tooled leather backgammon board. Comes with turned boxwood and ebony backgammon men contained in a slide lid wood storage box.

Good mid 19th century Irish Arbutus Wood inlaid Killarney folding chess and backgammon games board.The Killarney work Arbutus folding games board with a chess side  having an attractive serpentine inlaid shamrock border and the inside revealing a Backgammon Board.

Comes complete with Arbutus wood counters in a slide wood storage box and dice.

Killarney Ware was produced in Ireland from around the 1830"s. Arbutus wood was the main wood used as well as yew and holly. James Egan was one of the main manufacturers and this board can be attributed to him.

An important and rare large late 17th century German folding

Games Board veneered in field maple, one side with an inlaid

Chessboard in contrasting timbers and a Merrill's game, the reverse

with a Backgammon board, the place tips inlaid with ebony and

ivory points. Complete with a set of fine and large double sided

engine turned counters in rosewood and boxwood (30). Circa !660


This games board has had a recent stand made for it so as to enable

the board to be used with a clear plate glass top as a stunning and

original low coffee table.
